My CV, Bio and Artist Statement
Nationality & Education Ann Golub is a Russian contemporary painter, born in 1981. She trained at the prestigious Moscow Institute of Art named after Surikov and the Moscow School of Art. Her artistic development also included specialized courses in composition, modern art, drawing, and theory of world painting
Style & Influences Golub’s artistic approach blends Expressionism, Impressionism, and Modern, using oil and sometimes acrylics, oil pastels, and mixed media. She often paints people, flowers, still lifes, and landscapes
Her style is deeply influenced by late 19th- and early 20th-century Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters such as Gauguin, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Bonnard, Matisse, as well as Russian painters like Mashkov, Petrov-Vodkin, and Serov. She's also inspired by the dynamic lines of Japanese prints Golub aims to reflect themes of love and harmony in her artwork. She believes harmony and love are everywhere and wants viewers to focus on it instead of negativity
"I truly experience creative freedom in the open air. Nature and people from the Russian hinterlands inspire me and give me energy with their diversity and richness of stories. In my works, the most important thing is emotions, feelings and impressions of a place or a person. They can be expressed in composition, spots or lines."
Since 2019, she has been actively participating in exhibitions, both in Russia and abroad. Her works are held in museums and private collections.
Her main artistic style is Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. In her paintings, special attention is given to the emotional perception of the moment, to light, color, and atmosphere. Each work is a visual reflection not only of external reality but also of an inner response to it.
The central themes of her art are nature and the human being as its inseparable part. A distinctive feature of her practice is the choice of framing. The artist uses handmade frames crafted from natural wood—fallen trees, old fences, and other natural or weathered objects. These materials, carrying the marks of time, are given a new life, becoming an integral part of the artistic image. Some frames even preserve fragments of the natural environment, such as real moss, which enhances the sense of authenticity and deep connection with nature.
Thus, each work represents a harmonious unity of painting and framing—a single artistic statement in which form and content are inseparable.
